The Importance of Dental Hygiene on Kids Health

Overall hygiene is one of the most important things that a child should learn while growing up. Taking a bath, washing their hands, cleaning their ears and wiping their nose are all just a part of an important daily routine that parents should inculcate into their children’s minds as early as possible. However, one of the most important part of overall hygiene is something that involves the mouth. Since among the other hygiene routines are usually done on the skin, brushing your teeth is a very important step since it gives more attention to a part of the body that is responsible for nourishment.

Kids who don’t brush their teeth accumulate plaque and tar in between their teeth. Plaque and tar eventually harden and create a very good environment for bacteria to flourish. If this continues, teeth will erode and the damage reaches the gums and even other organs as far as the heart. Many parents are unaware of the dangers of poor oral hygiene and this causes serious effects on their kids’ health as they grow older.

Bacteria from periodontal disease eventually make their way through blood vessels. One of the main organs affected in this situation is the heart. Plaque, along with the bacteria, also deposits themselves in arteries. This causes an immune response that leads to inflammation and microscopic injuries. This constricts the blood vessels and forces more blood to flow and increases pressure.  The fatty plaque bonds with blood cells forming clots. These blood clots eventually work their way to smaller blood vessels which eventually lead to blockage and ultimately leading to tissue death. This adds more risk to heart problems like stroke and heart attack.

Different dental institutes in countries all around the world are now looking into the importance of promoting oral hygiene among kids as an effective preventive measure for heart-related problems, respiratory disorders and oral cancer. Different oral services involving teeth extractions, fillings, frequent cleaning and checkups from a certified dentist, other services offered also include the expertise of a cosmetic dentist. Gold Coast from down south, to Nuuk far north in Greenland, different organizations are spreading the news and offering a helping hand in the pursuit of oral health and dental hygiene.

Recent studies have seen a direct effect of poor oral hygiene with pregnancy complications and other organ related problems. If we don’t act now, tooth decay might eventually get in to the top leading causes of mortality all over the world.
