Preparing meals for kids can be difficult especially nowadays when children just love to go for those colorful breakfast cereals with their favorite cartoon characters on the box. Some even incorporate toys in their fast food meals to get the attention of kids. Others shape their chow into alphabets or animals to steal their interest. Food that excites their imagination usually wins the heart and tummies of these toddlers.
It would be so easy if only your kids loved eating fruits, vegetables and the other nutritious meals vital to their growth. This requires a little more discipline to develop and maybe a healthy dose of FUN for their eating experience to go smoothly. Check out some of the FUN meals we can prepare for the children.
- Try giving their meal names that they can identify with.
- Their meals must come in kid sized portions so they wouldn’t lose their appetite by being too full of the same stuff.
- Offer them a variety of different textures like crispy vegetables, saucy pastas, tender beef and frozen yogurts.
- Prepare colorful meals that come in different shapes and sizes try mixing the vegetables or shaping their sandwich into stars.
Remember when we were kids when we just loved to help out our parents do stuff. This can also be utilized to help them pay more attention to eating healthy meals. We can involve them in preparing their food so it would be a lot more exciting for them. Here are some tips for your cooking session with the kids:
- Use basic ingredients that children can handle like milk, flour, eggs and fruits.
- It should be simple to prepare so they can help.
- Give them safe tasks like mixing vegetables, washing fruits or measuring the milk. Leave the cutting and cooking part for yourself.
- It should be fast to prepare so they won’t get tired and lose their enthusiasm.
It’s easy to make these FUN snacks we just have to think like kids again! We have to understand how to catch the imagination of our energy packed little tots. You can even use food as a reward for playing games, this way they will think that eating vegetables is a prize for a job well done. After awhile you don’t have to force them to eat their celery or their wheat bread. If we put a little effort into preparing our kids meals we can incorporate healthy and nutritious food into their diet easily.
